Culture
Aim: Protecting, embracing, and showcasing our identity
Protecting cultural heritage is important to barbudanGO to maintain our integrity as a people. We are a tight-knit community with only 1500 residents that have special traditions in food, such as ‘matate’ week-long dried meat or our language, a mix of English and African dialect. We must protect these now for younger generations and embrace what makes us unique.
In a globalized world, it is more difficult to protect because external influences are easily accessible, especially through social media and migration. barbudanGO will activate community initiatives that embrace, protect and showcase our culture with support from donors, partnerships, and collaboration with the local authority. Our long-term goal is to ensure sustainable cultural activities and sites that generate their own revenue and contribute to the local tourism package.

History
Aim: Conserving, restoring, repurposing heritage sites
Heritage sites, by their nature, are subjected to processes of degradation with time. This can lead to a situation where they lose their sense of value within their home communities. Conservation of heritage sites is an important tool to define the landmark, protect the area, potentially generate economic return, and by extension support the tourism industry.
barbudanGO’s conservation to restoration efforts seek to have these sites zoned to become protected areas that are repurposed and effectively managed through a partnership between barbudanGO, The Barbuda Local Council, notable academic or research organizations, and funding agencies. barbudanGO welcomes volunteers, partners, and donors to enquire about our Conservation to the Restoration project.

Education
Aim: Increasing productive capacity through innovative and progressive engagements
Education is one of the multifaceted pillars that engages all dimensions of our community on many different scales. Being explored in areas such as vocational training, advocating, social media outreach & analysis, community participation in workshops & programs, and through our volunteerism, barbudanGO capitalizes on bringing knowledge and information to the community.
barbudanGO seeks to initiate the revitalisation of sports such as cricket and horse racing within our community. This will allow a fresh young breed of youths to learn the basics of these sports, which is heavily woven into the fabric of this community. Other outreach programs that foster education are theater, drama, music, climate-smart & resilient technology and dancing will be our focus to further advance youth development and positive engagements.

Environment
Aim: Journeying to promote a conscious society where citizen science thrives
Ocean Management, Climate Change, Habitat Protection, and reversing Biodiversity Loss are the main focuses under the environmental pillar of barbudanGO. Environment preservation is a multidimensional and multi-disciplinary field and the success of environment preservation efforts depends on how connected the home community is to the health of the environment and the science that supports it.
barbudanGO discusses and consults with the experts because we believe in the integrity of science. Our aim is to create the spaces and engagements that would foster a conscious community whose habits contribute to the reduction of environmental degradation and the promotion of attitudes that support healthy terrestrial and marine ecosystems. barbudanGO seeks to activate the policy, raise awareness and support a thriving citizen science community. barbudanGO welcomes volunteers, partners, and donors to enquire about our Conservation to Restoration project.

Disaster
Aim: Sustainable action that builds resiliency
Climate Change, being a topic of discussion in most countries, has continued to be the prime focus in small tropical islands such as Barbuda. One of the major impacts of climate change that threatens us is intense hurricanes which are predicted to come stronger and stronger. More natural disasters mean more damage, loss of livelihoods, and destruction to homes and businesses.
barbudanGO aims at providing adequate awareness campaigns and equipping community members with the necessary tools and guidelines to help reduce the impacts they may face in any natural disaster.
barbudanGO engages in discussions while partnering with other organizations to combat climate change, and bringing the community of Barbuda to a level of preparedness as to leading the way to climate resiliency.
